Family weekend

Evan's uncle John, aunt Becky, and cousin Ross were in town this weekend from their home in Nevada. It was their first visit to Lincoln since 1997 and first chance to meet Evan.

It's always nice to see Evan's cousin, Damon, and an even nicer treat was meeting his girlfriend, Erin. Not only is she cute, she was very tolerant of the Kelley family in party mode.

Well, summer's nearly over and the 2006 t-ball season went out with a wimper. The final game was called last Sunday due to threatening thunderstorms.

Fortunately, we had tickets for the Saltdogs game that evening, so we got in a little baseball before the storm clouds unloaded on us.

God Bless America

A former teacher at Evan's preschool is going through chemotherapy to treat breast cancer. This week, a large number of her former students and their parents, coworkers, and friends gathered along her street to show their support and love for Meredith (whom Evan used to call "America").

This morning's Lincoln Journal Star featured the story and pictures on the front page. We're keeping Meredith, her husband Christian, and their daughter, Campbell in our thoughts.

But it was a strange time of the week for that. Then she saw the pink balloons and a banner with M-E-R-E — the beginning of her name . . .
